Corneal Transplantation

Restoring Clarity with Specialist Precision

If your vision is severely compromised by corneal diseases, scarring, or failed previous procedures, corneal transplantation (or keratoplasty) may be the only way to restore sight. These procedures require the highest level of surgical skill and consistent access to quality donor tissue. We understand that waiting for surgery can be difficult due to the potential for long waits for corneal tissue.

Expert Techniques, Rapid Access to Donor Tissue
Our highly dedicated team consists of Corneal Specialists who are experts in the full range of modern transplantation techniques, prioritising minimally invasive options whenever possible to ensure faster recovery and optimal visual results.
Why Choose Our Specialists?

Our focus is on precision, safety, and long-term clarity, ensuring you receive the highest standard of care for growths on the surface of your eye.

Modern Techniques for Superior Outcomes

We offer the full spectrum of advanced corneal transplantation, allowing us to select the precise technique for your best possible recovery and vision

Minimally Invasive Endothelial Transplants (DMEK/DSAEK)
For conditions like Fuchs Dystrophy where only the inner layer of the cornea (endothelium) is failing, we utilise these delicate procedures. They replace only the diseased cells, resulting in a faster visual recovery, significantly smaller incisions, and less risk than traditional full-thickness transplants.
Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK)
This technique replaces the diseased outer and middle layers of the cornea while preserving the healthy inner layer (endothelium). DALK is a preferred option for conditions like advanced Keratoconus, as it offers better long-term integrity and a lower risk of rejection compared to full-thickness surgery.
Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segments (CAIRS)
This advanced procedure involves implanting crescent-shaped segments of donor corneal tissue to physically reshape the patient's cornea. CAIRS is used in highly specialised cases, primarily to reduce irregular astigmatism and create a more regular surface for better vision.
Full-Thickness Transplant (PK)
Penetrating Keratoplasty (PK) remains the gold standard for corneas with deep scarring or involvement of all layers. This procedure replaces the entire cornea to restore clarity and structural integrity.
